Houston police are investigating the shooting of an armed suspect as two other suspects were taken into custody at 16101 South Post Oak Road about 11:30 a.m. last Friday (Nov. 1).
The wounded suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Two other suspects were arrested after a short foot pursuit. All three suspects are facing federal charges.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Officers J. Brown, I. Ulloa and R. Lujan reported:
HPD SWAT officers and other investigators were monitoring a group of suspects believed to be involved in multiple robberies. Officers observed the suspects taking overt actions that indicated they were about to rob an armored truck, which was occupied by SWAT officers. At that time, SWAT officers driving a marked patrol vehicle were notified to take the suspects into custody. As the officers prepared to take the suspects into custody, the suspects drove away and refused to stop. Officers, with their emergency lights and sirens activated, followed the suspects behind a strip shopping center at the above address. When officers managed to get the truck stopped, the driver and one passenger exited the truck and ran. The front seat passenger, armed with an AR style rifle, opened his door and began to turn towards officers. A SWAT officer then discharged his weapon and struck the suspect. Officers rendered aid to the suspect on the scene and he was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery. The two suspects that fled on foot were taken into custody. Federal charges on all three suspects are pending.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the Homicide Division’s Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division. Since the incident occurred in the Fort Bend County limits, that county’s District Attorney’s Office is also investigating.
