Houston police are investigating a shooting incident involving an outside law enforcement agency officer at 9000 Almeda Road about 3:45 a.m. today (Sept. 13).
A sergeant with the Texas Southern University (TSU) Police Department discharged a weapon at an unknown suspect who fled the scene. The sergeant was not injured. It is believed the suspect wanted in the incident was not struck. HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant E. Wohlgemuth and Detectives J. Kosler, C. Walker and D. Escobar reported: The TSU sergeant received a phone call about a burglar alarm set off at his extra employment job at an apartment complex at the above address. The alarm was for a maintenance storage building in the complex. The sergeant approached the building, observed the front door forced open, with a crowbar nearby. He announced his presence by yelling “police, come out,’” and saw the silhouette of a person rushing towards him. At that time, the sergeant discharged his weapon. The male suspect exited the building through the front door and fled on foot. The sergeant ran after the suspect, but eventually lost sight of him. Because a law enforcement officer discharged a weapon in the city limits of Houston, HPD’s Special Investigations Unit is conducting the investigation into the incident. Anyone with additional information about the unknown suspect or in this case is urged to call the HPD Special Investigations Unit at 713-308-3600. JFC/ JKS 9-13-23 Inc #131227123
