Investigation into Shooting Incident at 7900 North Stadium Drive

Houston police are investigating a shooting incident at 7900 North Stadium Drive about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (June 26).

The identity of the deceased adult male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives V. Lewis and M. Estep reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a welfare check call at an apartment complex at the above address and learned from a reportee that the male at the location was suicidal.  Officers attempted to make contact with the male by knocking on the door, however the male did not answer.  Due to concern for the male’s safety and with assistance from Houston Fire Department personnel, officers made entry into the apartment.

Officers entered the apartment, announced themselves and, as they entered the front living room, the suspect fired a shot.  As officers retreated out of the apartment, the suspect fired another shot.  Officers set up a perimeter, at which time the suspect fired a third shot.  At that time, HPD SWAT officers responded to the scene.

SWAT officers arrived and located the male unresponsive and lying on the bathroom floor.  He had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  HFD paramedics pronounced the male deceased.

As is customary in incidents when a suspect dies in the presence of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
