Houston police are investigating a shooting incident at 5900 Beaudry Drive that occurred about 11:55 a.m. on Saturday (July 29).
No one was injured in the shooting.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant E. Wohlgemuth and Detectives J. Kosler, C. Walker and D. Escobar reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and learned an off-duty Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable discharged his weapon at a burglary suspect. A preliminary investigation determined the Precinct 4 deputy was at his residence when he was advised that two male suspects were burglarizing his vehicle. The off-duty deputy saw the suspects fleeing down the street in a vehicle. The deputy followed the suspects in his personal vehicle and called 9-1-1 to provide his location.
The suspects then stopped their vehicle in the 5900 block of Beaudry Drive. The suspect driver and passenger exited and the passenger fired several times at the deputy, but he was not struck. Fearing for his life, the deputy returned fire, but it is not believed the suspects were struck. The suspects got back into their vehicle and fled the scene.
As is customary in incidents in which a law enforcement officer discharges his weapon in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit. The Missouri City Police Department will investigate the burglary of a motor vehicle incident.
Anyone with information on the identities of the wanted suspects or in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
