Investigation into Shooting Incident at 5600 Burnside Lane

Houston police are investigating a shooting incident in which an off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 deputy fired shots at a suspect at 5600 Burnside Lane about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (February 3).

The Harris County Precinct 6 deputy, who discharged his weapon, was not injured in the incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant S. Dau and Detectives D. Hammons, H. Le and M. Childs reported:

An off-duty Harris County Precinct 6 deputy saw an unknown suspect looking into parked cars near the above address.  The deputy then saw the suspect get into the driver’s seat of the suspect vehicle in an attempt to leave the scene.  A nearby witness saw the suspect burglarizing another parked vehicle and attempted to block the suspect vehicle with his own vehicle.  At that time, the suspect reversed his vehicle in the direction of the deputy, who was standing in the street.  The deputy discharged his weapon several times at the vehicle, but it is unknown at this time if the suspect was struck.   The suspect continued to reverse down the street, struck a parked vehicle and then fled the scene in his vehicle.

The suspect remains at-large, but his vehicle was recovered at a nearby location.

No Houston Police officers discharged their weapons or were involved in this incident.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
