Houston police are investigating a shooting incident involving an off-duty HPD officer that occurred in the 26200 block of Southern Glen Lane (in Katy, TX) about 10:10 p.m. on Saturday (March 6).
Neither the officer who discharged his weapon nor the suspects were injured in this incident.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives J. Turner, R. Anderson and M. Resnick reported:
The officer was off-duty and in his home when he observed two unknown males running in his backyard toward his storage shed. The officer armed himself, exited the front door of his house and entered the backyard through a side gate. As he did so, he observed the suspects near his storage shed. The officer confronted the suspects and observed one of them to be holding what appeared to be a weapon in one of his hands. The officer gave the suspect verbal commands to drop the apparent weapon, which the suspect refused. Fearing for his safety, the officer discharged his duty weapon one time in the direction of the suspects.
Both suspects fled on foot, jumping the back fence. There is no evidence at the scene to indicate one of the suspects might have been struck.
As is customary in shootings involving HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division.
Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Special Investigations Unit at 713-308-3600.
