Investigation into Shooting at 15902 Galveston Road

The shooting of a man at 15902 Galveston Road about 1:30 a.m.  today (March 24) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The victim, John Pelaken, 29, was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The male shooter, 30, was not injured.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers A. Hernandez and C. Bowling reported:

Pelaken and his girlfriend had been drinking while at the above address and got into an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.  The girlfriend sustained minor injuries and was also threatened by Pelaken with a gun.  A female witness present during the altercation sent text messages to her boyfriend regarding the incident.  Pelaken and the girlfriend also received text messages from the witness’s boyfriend.  Pelaken responded to the texts by threatening to kill him.

When the boyfriend arrived home, he attempted to leave with his and Pelaken’s girlfriend.  All three were confronted by Pelaken in the parking lot.  During the confrontation, the male obtained the gun from Pelaken’s girlfriend and fired several shots to deter Pelaken from walking toward them.  Pelaken managed to get into his vehicle, a black Mustang, and fled the scene.

A short time alter, Pelaken was involved in a crash with another vehicle in Webster, Texas, and was determined to have suffered a gunshot wound in the original incident.  He was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.  Pelaken’s girlfriend was also transported to an area hospital to be treated for injuries suffered during the assault.
