Investigation into Man’s Death at 702 Girard Street

Houston police are investigating the death of a man found at 702 Girard Street about 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday (July 24).

The man is identified as Damon Spiller, 56.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Stroble and Detective K. Collier reported:

HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the above address regarding an unresponsive man found in a residence.  HFD pronounced the man – identified as Mr. Spiller –  deceased with, at that time, no apparent signs to indicate the cause of death.

An autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Spiller’s cause of death to be due to a gunshot wound.

Due to a preliminary investigation and evidence found, detectives believe a gunshot(s) was fired from the area of the East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10 ) ramp from the North Freeway (North Interstate 45) lanes. Detectives would like to speak with anyone who may have encountered anyone or anything suspicious in that area on July 20 or July 21.
