Houston police are investigating the death of a man at 5515 Sheraton Oaks Drive about 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 1).
The identity of the victim, 69, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Homicide Division Detectives D. Davis and D. Lunceford reported: Officers were dispatched to a vicious animal call at the residence at the above address after a witness observed the victim and his dog being attacked by other dogs in the victim’s backyard. When officers arrived, the two attacking dogs were still aggressive. To make entry to render aid to the victim, one officer discharged a duty weapon and struck one of the attacking dogs. Officers and paramedics then gained entry into the yard and observed injuries on the victim consistent with bite marks in an animal attack. Paramedics pronounced the man deceased. The victim was in the backyard of his residence when it is believed two dogs from the residence next door entered his back yard. The residences are separated with a chain link fence. The victim’s dog and the two attacking dogs (including the one wounded in the shooting) were placed in the custody of the City of Houston’s BARC animal shelter. The investigation is ongoing with no charges filed at this time. JFC/VHS 2-2-23 Inc #015771823
