Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a male at 9801 Beechnut Street about 1:10 p.m. on Saturday (May 21).
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant J. Hekimian and Detectives N. Arellano and W. Elliott reported: Officers responded to a suspicious person with a weapon call in the 9700 block of Beechnut Street. Upon arrival, witnesses told officers the male was armed with a knife and running around the area. Officers learned the male ran into the street and fell. When officers located the male, he was conscious and lying in the street. Officers approached the male and detained him at that time. A short time later, the male became unconscious. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced him deceased. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause and manner of the male’s death. As is customary when a person dies in the presence and custody of an officer, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
