Houston police are investigating an incident in which a male suspect died following his arrest at 9517 Bissonnet about 6:55 p.m. on Thursday (November 22).
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M Millington, J. Snook, E. Rodriguez, L. Lopez and R. Bass reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a criminal mischief-in progress call at a restaurant at the above address. Employees reported an unidentified white male, naked from the waist down, entered the restaurant and began destroying the inside of the establishment. He then assaulted an employee before fleeing on foot.
Officers located the suspect a short distance away in a mall parking lot at 9570 Southwest Freeway. Now completely naked, the suspect attempted to flee from officers. After being taken into custody, the suspect became unresponsive and was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Southwest Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
As is customary in incidents in which a suspect is deceased while in the custody of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
