Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed suspect and a HPD officer exchanged gunfire in the 15900 block of Blue Ridge about 1:55 p.m. on Thursday (April 27).
Neither individual was struck.
Officer C. Ardoin, who discharged his duty weapon, was sworn in as an officer in November 2010. He is assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant H. Ruiz and Senior Police Officers J. Barnes and R. Gonzalez reported: Officer Ardoin was conducting surveillance in southwest Houston in Fort Bend County when he heard gunshots in the area. He drove toward the location from which he believed he heard the shots and observed a vehicle speeding away. Officer Ardoin followed the vehicle to the above address where he was fired upon by a suspect in the vehicle. Officer Ardoin, fearing for his safety, returned fire and the suspects then fled.
Officer Ardoin notified dispatchers of what had occurred and continued following the suspects, who once again began shooting at him. He did not return fire. Additional arriving patrol officers conducted a felony traffic stop in the 1000 block of Derby Lane where both suspects were taken into custody. They are currently being held in the Fort Bend County jail with charges pending upon results of the on-going investigation. Their identities are not available at this time.
As is customary in which an officer discharges his weapon within the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
