Investigation into Incident at 11200 Sabo Road

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed robbery suspect by Pasadena Police Department officers at 11200 Sabo Road about 3:35 p.m. on Monday (December 14).

The suspect is identified as Michael Anthony Dilbeck (w/m, 34).

The Pasadena Police officers who discharged their duty weapons were not injured in the incident.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant G. Rodgers and Detectives I. Ulloa, R. Lujan, M. Resnick and J Brown reported:

Pasadena Police Department officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle taken during an aggravated robbery in HPD’s jurisdiction. PPD officers located the stolen vehicle, driven by suspect Dilbeck, who evaded and fled from officers.  After the vehicle became disabled, Dilbeck abandoned the it at a gas station at 9802 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45).  Dilbeck exited the vehicle and held a semi-automatic pistol to his head as PPD officers gave him numerous verbal commands to surrender, which he ignored.  DIlbeck then fled on foot to a nearby Ford F-150 pickup truck, with the keys in the ignition, and stole the vehicle.

PPD officers pursued the Ford as it travelled the wrong way on the Gulf Freeway to the 11200 block of Sabo Road.  As Dilbeck continued to evade police, PPD officers conducted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver in an attempt to end the pursuit.  After the maneuver, Dilbeck put the gun to his head and then pointed it at PPD officers.  Fearing for their lives and that of their partners, four PPD officers discharged their duty weapons, striking Dilbeck.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Dilbeck deceased.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents that occur in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
