Houston police are investigating an incident in which a male suffered a fatal, apparently self-inflicted, gunshot wound after shots were fired at HPD officers at 220 Van Molan about 10:10 a.m. on Thursday (March 15).
The male was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Responding HPD officers were not harmed and did not discharge their duty weapons in this incident. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Burton reported: HPD patrol officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call at the above address where Houston firefighters were already on the scene. Upon arrival, an unknown suspect or suspects inside a pickup truck began shooting at the officers. The officers quickly got out of their marked patrol vehicle and took cover behind it. While taking cover, they heard another gunshot come from inside the pickup truck. HPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Team officers were called to the scene. Two individuals inside the truck were detained for questioning and a third male was found inside the pickup truck, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation is continuing. KJS/JFC 3-16-18 |
