Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male at 9616 Long Point Road about 6:30 a.m. today (Oct. 12).
The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Miller and Detective D. Stark reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the above address and found an unresponsive male lying in the middle of the street. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It it believed three to four males were attempting to steal catalytic converters from a Toyota Tacoma at the corner of Long Point Road and Springrock Lane when an unknown person(s) approached them and began firing shots at them. The males jumped into a white, four-door BMW and attempted to flee. As the BMW was pulling onto Long Point Road, the driver collided with another vehicle. The males then jumped out of the BMW and fled on foot. One of them ran approximately 50 yards and then collapsed. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased.
