Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found at 9400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 1 a.m. on Monday (July 19).
The identity of the victim, 33, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Flores and C. Flora reported:
Officers were dispatched to a major crash on the northbound lanes of the freeway at the above address and found three damaged vehicles just before the West Mount Houston Road exit. Officers also found a man lying on an embankment between the freeway and the service road. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man deceased. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound.
Witnesses reported seeing the man, who was involved in the initial crash and subsequently parked on the freeway shoulder, get into an altercation with individuals in a car on the feeder road. As a result of that altercation, the victim was fatally shot. The suspects fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.
