Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 8700 Main Street

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 8700 Main Street about 3:10 a.m. on Saturday (May 29).

The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective K. Heaverlo reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a reported shooting in the 2600 block of the South Loop West (South Interstate Highway 610 West) service road near Fannin Street.  During their investigation, officers discovered a white Porsche, with bullet holes in the driver and passenger sides, had crashed into the side of an office building at 2626 South Loop West.  No victims were located at the scene, however the driver and passenger were located at an area hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Officers also learned a black Chevrolet Suburban, also with several bullet holes, was found in a nearby parking lot at 8700 Main Street.  The driver of the SUV was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The back passenger of the Suburban remained at the scene.

Further investigation determined the driver of the Suburban, a private limousine, and the driver of the Porsche had just left a party in the 5900 block of the South Loop West.  As the two vehicles entered the South Loop West, traveling westbound, an unknown vehicle approached and a suspect(s) inside began shooting at both vehicles.

At this time, investigators do not believe road rage or a random act of violence is the motive.  The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
