HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Daignualt and Detective E. Aguilera reported:
A male victim, 32, arrived at his apartment complex at the above address when the suspects approached him on foot, held a gun to his head and took his vehicle. As the suspects attempted to exit the complex in the stolen vehicle, they were thwarted by an apartment access gate. The suspects were forced to drive back around the complex where they then tried to run over the victim. At that time, the victim fired shots at the vehicle. The suspects abandoned the vehicle when they could not exit the complex, jumped the fence, and began running along the service road. As the victim approached the fence, the suspects began shooting at him. The victim fired back, striking one of the suspects while the other two suspects fled the scene on foot.
The wounded suspect was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are trying to identify the other two suspects in this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
