The fatal shooting of a female at 7100 Golfway Street about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday (June 3) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the deceased female is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter, 34, was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and Detective C. Flora reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found an unresponsive female who had suffered multiple gunshots in the roadway. Paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined the shooter, a male experiencing homelessness, was sleeping in a makeshift bed. A woman approached with a large stick brandished as a club and stole the male’s backpack with all his personal belongings. Fearing for his safety, the male retrieved a firearm and fired as the female ran away with the backpack. The female collapsed and the male retrieved the backpack, and called 911 with a phone that was in the backpack. The male remained at the scene and has been cooperative with investigators.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and it was determined the case will be presented to a grand jury for review.
