Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 6600 Hillcroft Avenue

Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental shooting of a man at 6600 Hillcroft Avenue about 12:35 a.m. on Saturday (September 23).

The identity of the deceased male, 18, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Diaz and M. Castillo reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found a man unresponsive on the patio of his apartment.  He had suffered a gunshot wound.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man deceased.

A preliminary investigation and witness statements indicated the man, who appeared intoxicated, retrieved a pistol because he wanted to fire it into the air. Upset with his behavior, witnesses attempted to get the gun away from the man.  As they struggled over the weapon, it discharged at least once, striking the male.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
