Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of one male and the wounding of 15 other individuals that occurred in the 6000 block of Cherryhill Street about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday (May 4).
The identity of the deceased male, 18, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective J. Brown reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting in a residential area at the above address. Witness stated the shooting took place during a large house party. During the event an altercation occurred and multiple gunshots were fired. When officers arrived they found multiple persons suffering from gunshot wounds.
One male suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At least 15 additional individuals were taken to different area hospitals by Houston Fire Department paramedics or by private vehicle. The injured persons range in age from 16 to 40 years old. Their identities and current conditions are not available at this time.
Officers detained several persons at the scene who were questioned and released. No suspect(s) is in custody at this time.
