Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 5910 Schroeder Road about 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday (October 8).
The identity of the victim, 59, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Ponder and Detective J. Meister reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive man on the sidewalk. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
A preliminary investigation and witness statements determined the victim was playing dominoes with friends when an unknown suspect approached the victim from behind and struck him on the head. According to the witness, the men exchanged words and the suspect suddenly pulled out a pistol from his pocket and shot the victim. The suspect, described only as a black male in his 20s, then fled the scene.
