Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 5900 Hillcroft Avenue about 10:20 p.m. on Monday (March 31).
The identity of the victim, 41, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants K. Meek and A. Lopez and Detectives J. Diaz and N. Sharp reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and were directed by a witness to a male who had been shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
According to witnesses, a single shot was heard, then several more shots were heard minutes later. Witnesses then saw the victim collapsed on the sidewalk near the above address. A possible suspect was seen standing in the median of the roadway. He was seen fleeing the scene on foot northbound on the west side of Hillcroft Avenue.
The suspect is described only as a dark-skinned black male, about 5 feet 11 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie and shorts. He had shoulder-length braids or locks coming out around the face opening of the hoodie.
