Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 5900 Elm Street

The fatal shooting of one man and the wounding of another at 5900 Elm Street about 1:25 a.m. today (April 1) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The identity of the deceased male, 17, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  The wounded male, 34, was transported by private vehicle to an area hospital and is expected to survive.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives W. Huff and J. Nguyen reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and found an unresponsive male with gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the male deceased.  Officers then learned another wounded male was transported by private vehicle to an area hospital.

A preliminary investigation determined two male suspects attempted to rob a male, who was armed.  After being shot, the male returned fire and fatally struck one of the suspects.

The second suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.  He is described only as a Hispanic male, 18 to 20 years of age, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and it was determined the case will be reviewed by a grand jury.

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the wanted suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
