The fatal shooting of a man at 4901 Laura Koppe Road about 2 a.m. today (August 2) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury. The identity of the deceased man, 34, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The male shooter was not injured in the incident. HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Flora and J. Flores reported: HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a parking lot at the above address and learned a man with gunshot wounds had been transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A preliminary investigation and witness statements identified the shooter, who was detained at the scene and provided a statement. Further investigation determined the deceased man got into a verbal altercation with several persons at the location and produced a handgun. During the altercation, the shooter feared for his life and fired several shots at the man, who was struck. No one else was injured in the incident.
