Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred at 3941 Fondren Road about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 26).
The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Wohlgemuth and Detective J. Gardner reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a gas station at the above address. Upon arrival they found two males had suffered gunshot wounds. One of the males was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics and the second was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Further investigation found the shooting had occurred during an attempted robbery. The suspect (deceased male) had approached the second (injured) male from behind as the second male stood near the gas pumps. The armed suspect demanded money and then attempted to steal the second male’s car. The second male then retrieved his own gun from inside the vehicle. While the second male retrieved his gun the suspect shot the male. The male then shot the suspect multiple times. The suspect then fell to the ground.
In an attempt to leave the area safely, a female witness accidentally ran over the suspect after he had been shot.
The investigation is continuing.
At this time the department does not believe there is a continuous threat to the general public.
