The apparent accidental fatal shooting of a male at 3600 Rosewood Street about 11:05 p.m. on Thursday (April 7) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The male shooter was not injured in the incident.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Perez and C. Bowling reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and found Texas Southern University (TSU) police officers had stopped a vehicle just outside the gate of the complex. The wounded male was inside the vehicle. His friends told officers they were attempting to transport the victim to the hospital. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation indicated the victim and his roommate were visiting with a friend inside an apartment. While in the apartment , the victim’s roommate was handling a gun he believed to be unloaded. The roommate pulled the trigger and the weapon fired, striking the victim.
Following consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the incident will be referred to a grand jury.
