Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 2915 Woodland Grove Drive

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male suspect by an HPD officer and the arrest of a second male following an incident at 2915 Woodland Grove Drive about 4:55 p.m. on August 4.

The deceased male is identified as Julio Alberto Sifuentes, 43.

A second male, Lewis Ramirez, Jr., 37,  was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation in the 339th State District Court.  A booking photo of Ramirez is attached to this news release.

Officer K. Ipina, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured.  He was sworn in as an officer in August 2020 and is assigned to the Kingwood Patrol Division.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant B. Smith and Detectives V. Lewis, R. Anderson and M. Estep reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a burglary of habitation call after a security camera captured two men breaking into the home at the above address. The first responding officer observed a male suspect walking away from a parked car in the home’s driveway. The officer ordered the male to stop, but he refused and began to run away on Willow Point Drive.

The officer chased the suspect (Sifuentes) through several backyards and caught him as he attempted to jump a fence. At that time, the suspect began to fight with the officer and a physical altercation ensued. The suspect then produced a handgun and attempted to shoot the officer. The officer was able to retrieve his own firearm and discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. The officer rendered first aid and requested the Houston Fire Department paramedics.  Responding paramedics declared the suspect deceased at the scene. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Surveillance video also showed a second suspect, later identified as Ramirez, leaving the residence in the car that was parked in the driveway. Officers located him a short time later and Ramirez was arrested without further incident.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, this incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
