Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 2130 South Highway 6 about 2:20 a.m. today (Sept. 30).
The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Nielsen and Detective J. Robles reported:
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the above address and located the victim lying on the ground suffering a gunshot wound. Nearby, officers also located a Chevrolet Tahoe that had crashed through a wooden fence along the side of the parking lot at the location. Responding Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
Further investigation identified several witnesses who stated the victim was driving the Tahoe and was offering food to them when the victim was approached by a suspect on the passenger side of the vehicle and demanded money. The witness stated she walked away and a short time later hear gunshots and then Tahoe crashing into the fence. Additional witnesses stated they heard gunshots, the vehicle crash and a suspect fleeing from the vehicle. Witnesses were able to provide a suspect description.
Houston Police Patrol Support Team officers were in the area and were able to locate a person of interest matching the description of the suspect. The male was detained and questioned. He was booked into the Harris County Jail on a separate offense.
The investigation is continuing.
