HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Miller and Detective D. Stark reported:
Officers responded to a shooting call and located a male unresponsive in a wooded area near the above address. Paramedics pronounced the man deceased.
A truck was found disabled in a ditch with the driver’s side door open. A resident told officers he shot the male after a family member’s truck was stolen and the suspect attempted to flee in it, but drove the truck into the ditch. The resident stated he fired shots at the suspect when he (suspect) exited the truck with a firearm.
Detectives consulted with members of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, who advised the incident would be referred to a grand jury to determine if charges will be filed in the case.
At this time, the department does not believe there is a continuous threat to the general public.
