Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 13500 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 10:45 p.m. on Thursday (August 15).
The identity of the male victim, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives M. Barrow and J. Caten reported:
HPD patrol officers, on routine patrol, were traveling eastbound on the East Freeway when they witnesses a possible road rage incident. Officers exited the freeway, made a U-turn and found an unresponsive man with a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported to the man to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in critical condition. On Saturday (August 17), doctors pronounced him deceased.
A preliminary investigation, and evidence from the scene, determined the male and the shooter exchanged gunfire resulting in the victim being struck. Both parties, including the shooter and the victim’s family, remained at the scene. Both groups provided statements to investigators.
No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
