The fatal shooting of a man at 11927 East Freeway (Interstate Highway 10 East) service road about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (March 1) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The victim, Jarret Porter, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.
One individual, Demarcus Williams (b/m, 31), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony evading in a motor vehicle in the 338th State District Court for his role in the incident. A booking photo of Williams is attached to this news release.
A security guard who discharged his weapon was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives B. Roberts and B. Moss reported:
Patrol officers were dispatched to a shooting in-progress call at a nightclub at the above address. It was learned that Williams entered the club armed with a rifle. Mr. Porter attempted to physically stop him. At that time, a uniformed security guard, fearing for the safety of patrons, fired multiple shots in an attempt to stop Williams. Porter was fatally struck by the gunfire.
Williams attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle and was eventually detained. He was questioned and subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
