Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9600 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 8:25 a.m. today (July 15).
The identity of the male victim, 59, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer J. Perrotte reported:
According to witnesses, a Dodge Ram pickup truck was stopped in a moving lane of traffic while facing northbound on the North Freeway. The driver suddenly accelerated and drove at a high rate of speed. The truck left the roadway, struck the concrete base of a light pole and burst into flames. The truck then crossed the service road and crashed into a motorcycle dealership before coming to a stop. The driver died at the scene.
No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
The investigation is continuing.
