Investigation into Fatal Crash at 900 East Loop North

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 900 East Loop North (East Interstate Highway 610 North) about 7:25 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 19).

The identity of the male victim, 55, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Lopez and Officer M. Mathews reported:

The victim was possibly changing a flat tire outside a green Honda Element stopped in the shoulder of the northbound lanes of the freeway at the above address when the driver of a gold Toyota Avalon failed to drive in a single lane and struck the rear of the Honda and the victim.  Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The female driver, 26, of the Toyota did not show signs of impairment.  She sustained broken bones and was transported to an area hospital where she consented to a blood draw.  

The investigation is continuing.
