Investigation into Fatal Crash at 8000 Hockley Street

Houston police have learned that a man believed to have been found fatally shot at 8000 Hockley Street about 3:30 a.m. on August 28 was the victim in a hit-and-run crash.

The victim is identified as Ricardo Vazquez Diaz, 64.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer X. Zhang reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to the above address after Mr. Diaz was found lying in the roadway unresponsive.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him deceased.  Officers initially believed Diaz had been shot and HPD homicide detectives initiated an investigation.

An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Diaz’s wounds were not due to a gunshot and, instead, were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.  The HPD Vehicular Crimes Division was contacted on Wednesday (September 7) and an investigation was initiated.

At this time, there is no known suspect or vehicle description.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
