Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 7700 Westpark Drive about 6:10 a.m. on Tuesday (May 7).
The identity of the deceased male, 51, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer R. Saenz reported:
The driver of a green Mercedes CLS550 was traveling eastbound near the above address and, as the driver crossed the intersection of Hillcroft, struck a male riding a bicycle crossing Hillcroft. The pedalcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene, did not show signs of intoxication and was questioned and released.
Preliminary investigation and witness statements indicate the driver of the Mercedes had a green light and the pedalcyclist attempted to cross the roadway against the light.
The investigation is continuing.
