Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7700 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 7:35 a.m. on Saturday (June 17).
The identity of the deceased male, 50, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant A. Patterson and Officer M. Lares reported:The driver of a black Mitsubishi Mirage was stopped in an eastbound moving lane of traffic on the freeway at the above address because of a flat tire. The deceased male, a passenger in the Mitsubishi, exited the vehicle to inspect the tire. A white Mercedes Sprinter traveling eastbound struck the male and the Mitsubishi, causing the Mitsubishi to collide with a blue Nissan Murano. Houston Fire Department paramedics were called and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
The male driver, 37, of the Mitsubishi was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The male driver, 21, of the Mercedes was not injured. He showed no visible signs of intoxication and was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time. The investigation is continuing.
