Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7500 Richmond Avenue about 2:25 a.m. today (March 31).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer J. Johnson reported:
The victim was driving a gray BMW 335I at a high rate of speed westbound near the above address, failed to stay in a single lane and crashed into a tree in the center median. The vehicle then caught fire. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A witness saw the BMW run the red light at a high rate of speed at the intersection of Hillcroft Avenue, while racing a black Dodge Charger, prior to the crash. The driver of the Dodge did not remain at the scene.
