Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7400 South Freeway (State Highway 288) about 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday (December 22).
The identities of the two female victims are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer Chheav reported:
An off-duty HPD sergeant advised police dispatchers of a wrong-way driver in a black Mazda 3 traveling northbound in the southbound toll lanes of State Highway 288, near F.M. 518. The sergeant attempted to locate the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.
A short time later, the Mazda, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, struck a red Honda Accord at the above address. The Mazda flipped and struck a median. The female driver, 21, and her female passenger, 25, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver of the Honda was transported to an area hospital with a broken leg.
The investigation is continuing.
