Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7300 Long Drive about 2:40 a.m. today (May 28).
The identities of the two deceased males are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer J. Baker reported:
HPD patrol officers were in the area and observed a silver Hyundai Elantra almost sideswipe their patrol vehicle. Officers then began to follow the Hyundai southbound in the 1200 block of Broadway, where the suspect vehicle struck a curb. Officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect refused to stop and evaded police. A brief pursuit ensued.
As the suspect vehicle fled, it struck poles in the 7300 block of Long Drive and the vehicle rolled over. All four males in the vehicle were ejected. One of the males was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics. A second male was transported by HFD paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounce deceased. Two other males were transported to an area hospital in critical conditions.
The vehicle was determined to have been stolen.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
As is customary in incidents when an individual(s) dies in the presence of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Internal Affairs Division.
