Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5900 Beechnut Street

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5900 Beechnut Street about 9:05 p.m. on Sunday (May 7).

The identity of the deceased male, 67, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officer R. Guzman reported:

The male, a bicyclist, was riding southbound on Braewick Drive and crossing the street when he was struck by a red Ford F-350 wrecker pickup truck traveling eastbound on Beechnut Street.  Paramedics pronounced the bicyclist deceased at the scene.

According to multiple witnesses, the wrecker truck was speeding at the time of the crash.  The driver, 41, did not show visible signs of intoxication.  He was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time.  The investigation is continuing.
