Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 5335 West Gulf Bank about 6:20 p.m. on Monday (March 26).
The identity of the male victim, 2 years of age, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer S. Reese reported:
The victim was playing in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the above address when he was struck by a white Ford E-150 van. The driver, 48, was returning home from work and looking for a parking spot when he felt a bump while driving. However, when he looked around he did not see anything and continued to a parking spot closer to his apartment. At that time, the driver was told by witnesses he had struck a child.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the boy deceased. The driver did not show signs of impairment and was questioned and released. The investigation is continuing.
