Investigation into Fatal Crash at 4100 East Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 4100 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 9:20 p.m. on Monday (May 26).

The identity of the deceased female, 53, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dallas and Officer C. Moralez reported:

The female driver of a white Hyundai Accent was traveling eastbound at the above address when the vehicle became disabled. The driver came to a stop in a moving lane of traffic with hazard lights on. The female driver of a white Hyundai Sonata stopped behind the disabled vehicle. The male driver of a red Kenworth 18-wheeler was unable to stop, striking the white Hyundai Sonata, pushing the vehicle into the white Hyundai Accent.

The Hyundai Sonata came to a rest across in the moving lanes of traffic and was struck by a black Kia K5 traveling eastbound. Both the Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5 caught fire.

Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Hyundai Sonata deceased at the scene.

All other individuals involved were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is continuing.
