Investigation into Fatal Crash at 4000 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash in the 4000 block of the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 12:10 a.m. today (May 10).

The identities of the male and female victims, both 37, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer C. Moralez reported:

The victims were riding a white Coleman motorcycle scooter southbound on the freeway at the above address.  Witnesses stated as the scooter began to go over a hillcrest, it was struck from behind by an unknown maroon pickup truck.  The victims were ejected onto the lanes at the bottom of the hill. The pickup truck driver did not stop to render aid and fled the scene.

Several drivers unaware of the crash struck the victims and the scooter as they traveled over the hillcrest. Houston Fire Department paramedics declared both victims deceased at the scene.
