Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 400 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 10:55 p.m. on September 30.
The identity of the deceased female, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer J. Baker reported:
HPD patrol officers were blocking a lane of moving traffic for a traffic hazard on the freeway at the above address when the driver of a maroon GMC 1500 struck a patrol vehicle. The impact then pushed the patrol vehicle into a second patrol vehicle.
Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the female driver deceased at the scene. One officer was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
