Investigation into Fatal Crash at 3400 East Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 3400 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 3 a.m. on Sunday (February 6).

The identity of the female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Phillips reported:

The gray Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling near the above address, struck a barrier multiple times, and came to a stop on the shoulder of the freeway.  According to witnesses on the service road, a disturbance was heard and a male voice shouting.  A male and a deceased female were later found on the service road.  The male fled the scene on foot.  Houston police homicide investigators initially opened an investigation into what at that time was believed to be a suicide.

Later that evening, the male driver of the pickup truck came to the HPD Homicide Division.  The male stated to investigators he had been involved in the crash during which the woman was thrown from the vehicle.  This case is now being investigated by the HPD Hit and Run Unit.

No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
