Investigation into Fatal Crash at 2901 Lockcrest Street

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 2901 Lockcrest Street about 5:30 p.m. last Friday (April 1).

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Clark and Officer D. Jones reported:

HPD patrol officers were involved a vehicle pursuit with a gray Mercedes GLC300, driven by a known narcotics suspect near the above address.  As the vehicles approached the intersection of Furman Street, the Mercedes left the roadway, struck a large ditch and came to a stop on its side against a telephone pole.  As the Mercedes left the roadway, it created a large cloud of dirt which obscured the officers’ vision.  The patrol vehicle then struck the ditch and land on its side.

The officers managed to exit the damaged patrol vehicle without injury and then rescued the suspect from the Mercedes.  Officers then administered medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene.  The suspect was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  Officers recovered cash and narcotics from the Mercedes.

The investigation is continuing.
