Houston police have learned a woman critically injured in a crash at 2600 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 6:40 a.m. on March 22 has died.
The identity of the deceased woman, 55, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer A. Hart reported:
The woman entered a crosswalk area near the above address and, as she crossed the service road eastbound against the light, she was struck by a black Lexus GS460 traveling eastbound on Kirby and turning onto the Southwest Freeway service road. The male driver, 53, of the SUV remained at the scene.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the woman to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors later pronounced her deceased.
The driver was determined not to be impaired and was questioned and released.
No charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation is continuing.
