Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 2400 West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610 South) about 3:05 a.m. on Sunday (July 15).
The male victim, 39, was pronounce dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. A second male victim, 43, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer J. Baker reported:
The driver of a black BMW 328 struck a red and black Suzuki Hayabusa motorcycle causing the motorcylist to lose control. He was thrown from his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second motorcyclist operating a red and black Kawasaki ZX-14R fell off his motorcycle that then struck the Suzuki.
The driver of the BMW fled the scene. A short distance away, an officer located a vehicle matching the BMW’s description in the 12600 block of Kylewick and detained the driver. That driver and vehicle were transported to the crash scene; however, witnesses were unable to positively identify him as the one involved in the fatal crash. The driver was examined by a HPD DWI Task Force officer and subsequently arrested and charged with DWI.
The crash investigation is continuing.
