Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash at 2200 West Dallas Street about 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday (October 11).
The identity of the male victim, 45, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Smith reported:
The victim was on a bicycle and riding with a group in a local cycling event westbound near the above address. A silver Mercedes E Series sedan was traveling westbound just behind the cyclist. The cyclist lost control of his bicycle, fell to the ground and was struck by the Mercedes. The male driver of the Mercedes accelerated and fled the scene without stopping to provide medical assistance to the victim. Witnesses attempted to chase after the Mercedes and advised investigators the vehicle had out-of-state license plates.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
